How to Become an Idea Machine

I’m going to be honest with you.

I’ve been lazy lately.

And I’ve felt pretty bad about it.

You see, I’ve been neglecting the most important muscle in my body…

My mind.

Just like lifting weights and getting stronger. ?

Your mind works in the exact same way.

When you are exercising your mind, learning new things and generating new ideas.

You’re pushing your mind to new limits.

And it gets stronger as a result.

But just like any muscle, you need to keep doing this consistently.

Something I’ve been failing to do lately.

And why’s this?

Because naturally us humans are lazy thinkers.

When we need an idea, we normally settle for the first half-decent idea we have.

The only time we really test our minds is when we are up against it.

10,000 years ago – if we didn’t think fast then we were eaten by tigers. ?

When have I had the best ideas?

The times when I’ve been FORCED to think fast or have been backed into a corner.

Like when I was made redundant from my 10-year career and had to make money fast.

Or when my long term relationship broke down leaving my life plan in pieces.

But here’s the problem.

We aren’t always faced with life-changing situations…

Like redundancies…

Or being hunted by tigers (unless you live in Cornwall).

So how do we exercise our minds consistently?

Well, the simplest and most common way is to read and experience new things.

But I’ve got another way that has helped me massively in the past.

It’s a method made famous by James Altucher in the book “Choose Yourself!”.

Generating 10 new ideas each day.

It could be ideas about anything.

Most of the time it was about generating ideas to problems I faced.

10 ideas about careers I could land after retail…

10 ideas about healthy meals I could cook this week…

10 ideas to save money…

Why 10?

It goes back to us being lazy thinkers.

It’s pretty easy to come up with 5 ideas.

But idea 6 & 7 become a little harder.

As you push yourself further ideas 8, 9 and 10 can become gold.

Just like working out at the gym – it’s those last few reps that make a difference.

Sure some of these ideas will be rubbish, but if you generate 10 ideas a day for a year?

That’s 3,650 ideas a year.

I’m pretty certain one of those ideas will change your life. ?

So, if you’re like me and you’ve been lazy too…

Let’s change that starting today.

And you never know.

The next idea you have…

Might just change your life! ?
